IPL SHR Hair Removal
If you’re looking for a long-term alternative to shaving or waxing, SHR/IPL is a highly effective solution for both men and women to rid unwanted hair on the face and body, quickly and safely.
Known to be pain free in comparison to older technologies and body waxing, our state of the art machine also has integrated cooling devices leading to a much more effective and comfortable treatment.
Unlike other laser treatments that use intense energy and direct heat to destroy the hair follicle, SHR uses multiple light pulses of scattered light at a lower temperature to destroy the hair follicle. We can also safely and effectively treat all skin types.
For the journey to begin, a comprehensive assessment of your skin and test patch is necessary. Your skin is as individual as you are, so our treatment programmes and skin care recommendations are carefully tailored to suit your individual concerns.

How do I prepare for my SHR Hair Removal appointment?
Yes, we require you to shave within 24 hours of your appointment, as clean shaven as possible. No sun exposure or fake tan residue for minimum 2 weeks prior to treatment. We are unable to treat skin that is still retaining heat from the sun.
What areas can be treated?
Almost all parts of the body are suitable for IPL/SHR treatments. Most common areas of unwanted hair include the upper lip, face, underarms, bikini area, legs, arms, chest and back.
How many treatments are needed?
Commonly for hair removal, most clients require 6-8 sessions to achieve optimum results, though hair will reduce and become finer with each treatment. For some, maintenance treatments may be required to achieve a lifetime of smooth skin. Compare that to the cost and hassle of a lifetime of waxing or shaving.
How old do you need to be for Laser Hair Removal?
Any age can receive Laser Hair Removal, however if you are under 18, we will require parental consent.
What’s the difference between Laser and IPL?
Admittedly it’s a little confusing. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and these machines aren’t lasers. IPL machines are termed ‘broad spectrum’ because they deliver many wavelengths of light to the skin at once. Lasers, on the other hand, deliver just one specific wavelength, making IPL superior in its ability to treat a number of different skin concerns simultaneously. IPL/SHR is known to be pain free in comparison to older technologies.
What happens during treatment? Does it hurt?
Firstly, you'll be provided with safety protective eyewear. Whilst they may not lift your game style, they will protect those your precious eyes from the light. Your therapist will then pass the IPL/SHR handpiece over the area to be treated. IPL is not as painful as the usual hair removal methods used. Some slight discomfort can be felt during the procedure. It is very minimal and tolerable, but rest assured the sensation won't last long. Generally feels no more painful than a warm prickling on the skin, in our opinion it's nothing in comparison to waxing. And of course, it will depend on your pain tolerance and your skin sensitivity at the time of treatment.
Treatment Time?
Relatively quick, approximately 5 - 45 minutes depending on the size and number of areas to be treated on the day.
Downtime requirements?
Depending on your treatment type and area, down time is minimal and will vary. Immediately post-treatment mild redness and swelling around the hair follicle can be present for up to 24hrs post-treatment. The hair shaft is expected to fall out within 10-14 days.
A consultation and patch test is mandatory prior to treatment to determine the skin's functioning and your goals. Some treatments require the skin to be prepped for a minimum of 2 weeks on a gentle cleanser, pigment inhibitor, hydrator and SPF. Post-treatment requires the application of a non-occlusive gel prescribed by your therapist and available for purchase in the clinic.
